My Approach
I am a fully qualified person centred counsellor and an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). BACP accreditation is a widely valued quality status that reflects my level of experience. As a member of the BACP I must adhere to their ethical framework. You can find out more about the BACP and the ethical framework by clicking here.
The Person Centred approach to counselling was developed by Carl Rogers in the 1940’s. The theory believes that the client is the expert on themselves and through developing a therapeutic relationship with a counsellor and experiencing the right conditions, clients can become their true selves and reach what Rogers termed as “self-actualisation”.
My role is to listen to you and help you explore your feelings and worries whilst offering you a safe and confidential space to do this. I will not offer judgement or advice and I will honour your focus and priorities, supporting you to come to the decisions that are right for you. It may be a challenging process but by identifying patterns of behaviour and gaining insight into your present unease, it will be easier to work out the changes that can make a real difference in your life.
I will work with your individual thoughts and concerns so that almost any issue can be worked through, because it is you and your uniqueness at the centre. This approach keeps you fully involved in the therapy process and through mutual trust the therapeutic relationship we build will help you reach your desired outcome. I believe it is a privilege to be let into my client’s lives in this way, and I treat our work together with great respect.
Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic I worked with clients face to face, however during the pandemic I trained and became a qualified telephone and online counsellor. I am now offering all counselling sessions either online or via the telephone. The online platform I use is Zoom.
Your feedback is invaluable to me and throughout our journey I will ask your views and opinions. Working this way has enabled me to further strengthen my practice and the work I do with my clients.
